Almost Grown Up

One more song about moving along the highway

So I know I didn’t really post yesterday. I’m sorry about that. I spent all day (that I wasn’t in classes) running around on some last minute errands. The amount of stuff that needs to get done astounds me.

Today? Is my last day here. By this afternoon I’ll be heading off to New York (!) and then to points south. I can’t wait. I’m excited to be settled again. I’m excited to be working. I’m excited to not be living out of a hotel room. As much as I’ll miss a few of my friends here, I’m at my limit.

Also, I’ll be staying with friends for most of next week, so my ability to write/read has not been determined. Be patient and I’ll be back in the swing of things soon.

I’m off to finish loading my car. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

It’s not all bananas and dancing with toothbrushes

I was grumpy yesterday (yes, it’s true).

Then, I had a decent afternoon.

After that, I went for a run.

With bunnies.

Yes, bunnies were out everywhere on my run. Running alongside the trail. Dancing in the bushes (note: this isn’t a bad metaphor, there were actual rabbits, and they were cute).

After a great run, I got some dinner, had a beer, talked to my lovely girlfriend, then had another beer with some friends watching wonderful 80’s movies.

And in the end? My day was better.

Plus, the Red Sox pulled it out, in Japan, in extra innings. Really. Great start to the season! I always love the first day of baseball season. I need to order me some extra innings upon my arrival in VA.

So I guess there’s really no need to give up on bad days, with all the getting better they can do.

Bad day

I am grumpy today. So now I will complain about it.

(1) Yesterday the hotel took my chair with the loose arm. Presumably to fix it, but now I don’t have a chair for my desk.

(2) While here to steal the chair, they left a nasty note about my room being messy (note: they could have noticed the SUITCASE on the bed and determined I was packing, it’s cool that they didn’t though).

(3) I could not fall asleep last night.

(4) As such, the waking up early to run fell through.

(5) My lunch time run had to be cancelled when our lunch went from 90 minutes, to 75, to 55.

(6) Now I can run in the dark at 6pm when we get out.

(7) Some of the people here are really bugging me today.

( 8) Can today be over?

Well you told me about nowhere, well it sounds like someplace I’d like to go

The weekend? Was a lot of fun. A going away shindig with friends on Saturday, then home with the family Sunday. Of course, I capped it off by feeling ill (not actually being ill, just having stomach issues) which wasn’t so much fun.

In other news, I’m now five days away from leaving Rhode Island! Friday afternoon I will be out of here, heading off to see La, and from there to points South. I can’t wait. Last night I started looking over all the things I have with me, and my thought is that I have way too much stuff. It’s everywhere.

I’m considering either a 31 or a 50 mile race in September, to gear up for my October marathon(s). Thoughts? Volunteers to run with me?

Also, if anyone knows where you can buy peppermint oil capsules in Rhode Island, please let me know. Thanks.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Four things about me

Mar 22
1 Comment

So the family has cleared out, and now I have a few hours before I head to Boston to see friends. So I decided to post a little something before I went out for a run.

The lovely La had a meme thing yesterday, which I’m stealing since “ice cream makes me sleepy” isn’t exactly the detailed second post I promised yesterday morning.

Four films I’d watch again (in no particular order)

1. Shawshank Redemption
2. A Few Good Men
3. Arthur
4. Tombstone

Four placed I’ve lived

1. New Hampshire
2. Boston, MA
3. Newport, RI
4. Virginia Beach, VA

Four tv shows I watch (Just four?!)

1. Lost
2. Friday Night Lights
3. 24
4. Psych

Four Things to Eat

1. Anything with BBQ sauce
2. Burritos
3. Peanut Butter Cups
4. Blood Oranges

Four Places I’d Rather Be

1. Running
2. Sleeping
3. In my actual apartment
4. With La

Hope your weekends are going well!

I just had ice cream. Now I need to nap. Mmmmmm… ice cream….

We apologize for interrupting your regularly scheduled posting

The weekend will be hectic. I have family here today and tomorrow. Tomorrow night I’ll be in Boston with friends, and then Sunday I’ll be home for Easter, before coming back down here for my last week. Should be wild and crazy.

I need to get off to our big ceremony thing now (where I will NOT be receiving an award, unfortunately) but I will post something more substantive later today.

PS: Also? I went 16 for 16 in my NCAA pool yesterday. Hurrah!

Everything it seems I like…

“When I burp it tastes like beer.”

Those words actually came out of my mouth this morning. I’m a classy guy.

Last night? Based on a very questionable ruling on what counts as Lent I had a beer (in my defense, I haven’t cheated on Sundays like I am allowed to). A large beer. That hit me pretty hard. Not only did I do my normal thing after drinking where I can barely sleep, but I got up for my 5 mile run at 5am. Had it not been pouring rain (LOVE running in the rain) I think I would have been sweating off the beer. My tolerance is apparently gone.

The NCAA tournament starts today. I dutifully filled out two brackets last night. Given y past performance, you can be certain of one thing: neither UCLA nor Kansas will win this year. Put money on it, I picked them, so they will lose.

I’m going to try to go stop the party (not the good kind of party) currently happening in my tummy. Send help.

High stakes for a few names

You all need to stop writing so much. Take a day or two off. Seriously. My google reader is continuing to explode, and I haven’t had a chance to catch up from last weekend yet.

This story about an engagement gone wrong, made me question humanity. The poor guy buys a $12,000 engagement ring and puts it inside a helium filled balloon (so he can “pop” the question). He walks out of the store, loses his grip on the ballooon, and it flies away with the ring inside. He decides to make a bad situation worse by telling his girlfriend, who now won’t speak to him. I mean, really? What was plan A?

So yesterday was a landmark day for customer service. I give you two stories:

(1) The last piece of furniture was being delivered to my parent’s house, from which it will make it’s way to Virginia. I was given a three hour window on when it would arrive and made sure someone would be there. The truck apparently pulled into the driveway an hour before it was supposed to get there, sat there for five minutes, then left and didn’t call to say no one was there until 90 minutes later. Only problem? Someone was there. Both times. Ring the damn doorbell (Also, is “damn” a curse? The customer service lady asked me not to curse at her when I said “I want my damn furniture”). So annoyed.

(2) I attempted to get a tattoo yesterday. I figured that today’s post could be pictures and stories about that. Yeah, didn’t work out so well.

I researched this place for weeks, found no bad reviews, some good reviews, and decided it would be good (despite the somewhat shady practice of wanting payment in cash).  I was VERY nervous (remember the fear of needles? Yeah, I has it), but yesterday morning I called and made a 3:30 appointment.

I showed up at 3:25, so far so good. One person is waiting. After 10 minutes another person comes in (who had already started the process, and then had been sent across the street to get cash) and goes back to the tattoo-ing place (they only have one artist, and while there is other staff none of them were in yesterday).

At 4:00 the artist comes out and announces he has to leave for 10 minutes to run back to his house briefly, so I need to leave to get a cup of coffee. He stresses that he will be back in 10 minutes, and refuses to give me a price estimate so I can secure the necessary cash (and speed up the process when he gets back).

I’m annoyed (my appointment started half an hour before) but I get the coffee and wait in my car. After 20 minutes I try the front door. Still not back. After 45 minutes I try again. Still not back. Then I finally leave. I mean, why say you’re going to be right back if you’re taking off for an hour? Why treat people like that? So now I’m annoyed and need to restart the process.

I’m off for the day, I hope everyone has a great day and I will talk to you all soon!

The days go on, the lights go off and on

Hi Full Night’s Sleep. I missed you. But we spent some quality time together last night, and I feel pretty great this morning (much better than the zombie me that was present last night). After telling all my friends I’d make it out I managed to fall asleep around 9:30. Rock. Star.

So yesterday I had a great afternoon. A movie (A Few Good Men, obviously), some takeout, a nice long run. I felt great.

So, as you may have heard,  last weekend was wonderful, if a little lazy. Not that I mind lazy, at all, but we’re setting a record with some of these visits :-) Absolutely amazing though. And I saw some movies that La was absolutely shocked that I hadn’t seen. Really, really shocked. As in, “my girlfriend thinks there is a decent chance I was raised in Afghanistan” kind of shocked. But now I’ve seen them, and I just need to get her to watch Rudy (It isn’t really a sports movie baby, there’s so much more to it).

As far as funny old stories to share from my childhood: I was thinking last night about when my parents and I went to pick up our first dog, a beautiful golden retriever who was with us for a long time. She was absolutely wonderful and very protective of my brother and I. We had gone to pick her out, but when we showed up they had just washed her so she’d smell all nice, and her hair was still wet. Well I thought they were trying to trick us, because with the wet hair she looked like a different job (I think I was two or three, this made a lot of sense at the time). Thankfully cooler heads prevailed.

Ok, I’m off, hope everyone has a great day!
